We are trusted with this grace and responsibility from Jesus.
The summoning of the disciples, the authorizing, the naming of twelve Apostles, and commissioning them to work alongside the “lost sheep,” presented in the Gospel passage today is a reminder that each of us has a shepherding responsibility toward the lost sheep of our times.
To find the lost sheep of our times we need only open our eyes to the miseries of the suffering, the poor, the fallen away, the desperate, the uncared for, and so many more. By reaching out to those around us, starting in our own families, we are instruments of the love and care Jesus speaks of today when he calls each disciple by their name.
