You can’t just invite someone to be part of your family … can you?
When a son takes his elderly father out to eat, the father makes a mess, but the son patiently cleans him up, leaving the restaurant in awe of the son’s commitment. Jesus tells us today to take care of each other as though we are all one family.
Everyone trying to live according to God’s word has the potential to be Jesus’s family member, and he goes even further when he asks “who are my mother and brothers?” People do not have to be seen to be members of the spiritual family; if we are constantly doing the will of the Father, showing an active love for each other, we are included. So while it is a privilege to be in Jesus’s family, it also demands a responsibility and deeper commitment!
Let us ask today: what more should I be doing to be in the family of Jesus? How do I take care of those around me?
I pray we have the dignity and love to care for each other today as though we are in Jesus’s one big family.
