“All In” for Jesus: Family Reflection Video

“All In” for Jesus: Family Reflection Video

Love thy Neighbor  |  Holy lives of inspiration

Today, the three saints we celebrate and the Gospel remind us that there are many ways to be “all in” for God and Jesus.

In the Gospel, as Jesus and his disciples watched those offering their gifts, they observed many wealthy worshipers placing significant sums in the Temple treasury with fanfare. But only when Jesus observed the tiny gift of the poor widow, did he comment that she had given everything she had to God.

She gave her whole life and means of livelihood to God. Her sacrifice pointed to the sacrifice Jesus would make in giving his very life for others. This event invites us too to be “all in.”

There are many quiet servants in the background enabling so much to happen in our churches and communities. They offer prayers for their families and for their friends and neighbors. They are among the ones visiting and serving the sick and the shut-ins. This week is a perfect time to notice them, support them, encourage them, and pray for and with them.

God loves the sacrifices we make for others. He especially loves it when we give ourselves in love and concern because that gift costs us more than reaching in our purses. It demands that we be “all in.”

Let us thank God this week for the “widows” among us, and all those martyrs and quiet servants, in our own families, our churches and our neighborhoods. Let us be “all in” this Thanksgiving.
