Charity is the center and heart of the Church’s social doctrine. Every responsibility and commitment is derived from charity. This is synthesis of the entire law as Jesus teaches us. This is built in real substance of personal relationship with God and neighbor. This is a relationship that stems from the family and small groups to social, economic and political wellness. We know the condition to love God comes to us because HE himself is love and everything has origin in God’s love. All goodness in us is shaped by this reality and everything of and for love is directed towards God alone. As Jesus today reminds us that love of God and neighbor summarizes everything we can know from God’s commandments. Charity is the love we receive from God and give it out.

Strongest stories in our families are built from certain landmarks. And many occasions are about those moments we managed to come out something that we thought we could not make it. When people gather as family, they always recall these stories, And they will begin like… “Do you remember how far we have come from? Do you remember that moment I did not want to speak to you for a week, but I could not resist. Do you remember when you borrowed me money I lent you even when you had not paid previous debt. Do you remember when you I bought you that beautiful golden wedding ring….and the story continues with do you remember…

One time a priest was preaching. So, he told the Christians. Lift your burdens to the Lord. One man picked up his wife. One woman picked up her husband while another mother brought her children to the altar plus the husband! The gospel today states, “come to me who labor and heavy burdened and I will give you rest.” As families we may have several things that we feel without the hand of God we cannot succeed. Even probably we may have stories to tell of how Jesus stood with us when everything seemed breaking. When the marriage was under certain trial, we came to the Lord! In Sickness. In times of heavy disagreements and we said, let us pray over it. We said let us go for mass. We asked someone to pray with us, and we emerged victorious.

A couple who had lived together for 50 years were once interviewed. They were asked whether they had ever thought about divorcing one another. “Every day,” they replied. “Then what has kept you together?” The interviewer asked. With a smile, they answered, “We have learned to forgive one another.”

One of difficult topics to comprehend in our Christian life is eschatology and judgement. We keep waiting in hope but also waiting needs a lot of patience while performing the Christian practices. We find the first Christian community struggling with this is the situation. Jesus had just resurrected and ascended to heaven and now they are in the last phase, waiting again for Jesus. We, too, are in the same waiting. The writer of the first reading knowis the anxiety that may creep in among the Christian community and warns them but also gives life directives. He reminds them to be self-controlled and clear-minded for prayer.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you! I saw a comic that said, Wife is afraid of a cockroach, Cockroach is afraid of mouse. Mouse is afraid of cat. A Cat is afraid of a dog. A dog is afraid of man. And the man is afraid of a wife. It's fun in life, we are afraid of something. Something makes us scared. These can be internal fears. Based on personal experiences or difficulties.
