Cheating on a project will only hurt yourself.
A talented, elderly carpenter was given one more project before retiring. He had been planning to go off and live a life of leisure, so he didn’t put his best work in. When he finished, the boss gave him the keys and said the house was a gift to him for all the great work he had done over the years.
Like the carpenter, we are all responsible for building our own lives. It doesn’t matter how much is given to us; what matters is what we do with what is given. If we refuse to invest what is given, we stand in danger of losing our potential to flourish in life, like the servant in today’s gospel. Jesus is looking for us to be faithful, responsible, and wise builders of our personal lives, families, and his kingdom.
Are we constantly putting our best into all we do?
Friends, we pray for the wisdom to build well. Put our work where it may best stand strong.
