Built on Faith, Love, and Peace - Weekday Homily Video

Strengthening family unity

There's a heartwarming story about an artist who sought to paint the most beautiful thing in the world. He asked a pastor, a bride, and a soldier, each offering a different answer: faith, love, and peace. But it wasn't until he returned home that he truly understood. In the eyes of his children, he saw faith. In his wife's eyes, he saw love. And within his home, he found the peace that faith and love had created. He realized that the most beautiful thing in the world was simply "home.”

Today's readings echo this sentiment, reminding us that our families are the living canvases where faith, love, and peace intertwine to create a masterpiece reflecting God's presence.

The prophet Jeremiah speaks of a new covenant, one written not on stone tablets but on our very hearts. This isn't about following a list of rules; it's about a deep, personal relationship with God, where we know Him intimately and He knows us. It's about inviting God's love to fill our homes and our lives.

The Journey of Faith

In the Gospel of Matthew, we see Peter's powerful declaration of faith in Jesus as the Christ. But we also witness his human struggles and doubts. Like Peter, our faith journeys are filled with ups and downs. This teaches us an important lesson: faith is a journey, not a destination. We may question, stumble, or even fall. But with God's grace, we rise again, stronger and wiser, our faith deepened through our experiences.

St. Dominic, whose memorial is celebrated on August 8, teaches us that faith is not meant to be kept hidden. He dedicated his life to preaching the Gospel, spreading God's love through both words and actions. His example reminds us that our families are not just havens of faith but also beacons of God's love, meant to shine brightly for all to see.

Reflection Questions for Families

  • How can we make our home a place where God's love is felt and shared?
  • How can we support one another in our faith journey, especially during times of doubt or struggle?
  • What are some ways we can, as a family, share God's love with others in our community?

Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of faith and the beautiful example of those who have shown us how to live it. Help our families to be places where your love flourishes, where faith is nurtured, and where we become living examples of your goodness in the world. Amen.
