What brings us closer, when we are so far apart?
Two brothers lived on adjourning farms and shared everything. One day, they got into a fight and stopped speaking to each other. The elder brother called a carpenter to build a fence between their lands so he would not have to look at the ditch his brother had made. When he returned home, he was surprised to find the carpenter had built a beautiful bridge instead!
Just as the carpenter built a bridge to establish a new relationship between the two brothers, God sent his Son as a carpenter to build bridges that would establish new relationships between the old and the new, between sinners and the righteous, between the poor and the rich, between the self-righteous and the humble.
As we receive Him today, let us ask: what should we do to build new bridges between our family members and neighbors? What more should we do to become the bridge God intends us to be?
