A reminder on being prepared and not just ready.
In Jesus’ day, parents arranged marriages far in advance so the couple could prepare in becoming the best partner they could be for their spouse. The man would build them a house, and the woman would make the wedding clothes. The day of the celebration, the whole town would gather for a great feast, which we hear of today.
Those who are unprepared for the night do not get to partake in the festivities. Perhaps Jesus is asking us to check the level of spiritual oil in our reserve. If the level is down, what is draining it? Strained relationships? Material things? What do we need to keep our lamps shining brightly?
