When Jesus says he gives rest, I thought of my recent time at the seashore.
To me, Jesus is like an ocean of love. I was staying near the beach and saw a machine each morning that cleaned and levelled the sand. People who came later in the day could relax, completely surrender in the soft comfort of this fresh space. It is hard to walk on the dry, loose sand, but as I got closer to the water, the ocean made my steps firmer and more secure, as when we get closer to Jesus.
My friends and I stepped into the water. It was cold, but I eventually made it out to where I could float, the weight of my body lighter and lighter the more I let the ocean uphold me. Our burdens are lighter and lighter the more we surrender them to Christ.
What should I do to experience the rest Christ offers?
Lord, help me surrender myself to You; Your rest, Your calm, Your peace.
