Do Not Fall Away from Jesus - Weekday Homily Video

Written by Father Pinto Paul, C.S.C. | May 11, 2026 6:14:06 PM

In John’s Gospel, Jesus says something very honest and deeply encouraging:

“I have told you this so that you may not fall away.”

Jesus knew that His disciples would face difficult moments—rejection, suffering, confusion, and challenges to their faith. So before those struggles came, He prepared their hearts. And that is how God works in our lives too. Very often, God prepares us long before we understand what He is doing.

In the Acts of the Apostles, we learn the result of Lydia's encounter with Jesus. Scripture says:

“The Lord opened her heart.”

Being Guided and Prepared by Jesus

Before Lydia responded to the Gospel, God was already at work within her—guiding her, preparing her, making her ready. The same is true for us. Sometimes, only later do we realize how God was using certain people, experiences, or even struggles to strengthen our faith and shape our future.

Many families today carry worries and burdens:

  • stress,

  • illness,

  • uncertainty,

  • financial pressures, and

  • concern for children and young people.

Finding Jesus

At times, we may ask, “Lord, where are You?” But today Jesus reminds us that we are never alone. He promises the gift of the Holy Spirit, who gives us strength, wisdom, courage, and peace.

And brothers and sisters, there are also signs of great hope today. In recent years, many young people have returned to the Catholic Church. They are rediscovering the beauty of the Eucharist, Adoration, Confession, the Rosary, and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. In a noisy and distracted world, many are searching again for truth, meaning, and hope.

Why? Because the human heart was made for God.

This is a beautiful reminder that the Holy Spirit is still alive and active in the Church. God is still opening hearts—just as He opened the heart of Lydia. So this is not a time to lose hope. It is a time to remain close to Jesus.

Prayer prepares us. The Eucharist strengthens us. God’s Word guides us.

Families that pray together become signs of hope in the world.

Let us ask the Lord for renewed trust. When life becomes difficult, may we not fall away. May the Holy Spirit help us remain faithful and become joyful witnesses of hope for the next generation.
