Jesus is asking if we’ve read the terms and conditions…
Jesus often speaks in parables to help us recognize evil the world and invite us to remain firm in the good. When he asked the disciples in today’s gospel “Do you understand all these things?” I wonder how much they really understood when they quickly answered with “yes.”
An example from today would be when software needs to be installed or updated, we are asked to read all those “terms and conditions.” I don’t bother to read the whole thing, so I just click ‘yes, I understand.’ We say we understand many things, and want to answer Jesus with a “yes,” but Jesus wants us to understand his love more fully, so that our joy may spread to others.
How deep is our “yes” to the many questions in our lives? How well do we understand and reflect on what Jesus tries to teach us?
Let us pray today for a deeper understanding of God’s Word and promises, and the strength to share them among others.
