Does God Really Know Me? - Family Reflection Video

Learn more about our faith

The weather here in Massachusetts has changed, and we’ve also set our clocks one hour back. In the Church, we’re getting ready for the end of the Liturgical year. This is a time when we look forward to God coming to us as a newborn child. But first, we must prepare by realizing that living by Jesus’ values comes at a cost.

Last week, I heard an ad for a search engine, that you would use to look something up on the internet. This one promised that your search history would remain private. Now, when it comes to sharing my internet searches for shoes or the Bruins hockey schedule, I’m glad to have it stay private; that way, I won’t be bombarded by advertising every day for more shoes or Bruins gear.

But, even if something stays just with me or just with you, today’s psalm tells us something very different - when it comes to God.

The psalmist begins by saying, "O Lord, you have probed me, and you know me; you know when I sit and when I stand." It’s amazing!

God’s love for us is so great that He knows not only how we see the world but also whether we are sitting or standing, not to mention everything from our past. At first, this could cause us to worry. Sure we want Him to know that we’re at Mass right now.

But the psalmist also says, God knows our thoughts, even the words we will say today before we speak them or even type them on our phones or laptops! God knows us that well!

So, here’s the good news, since God wants us to live good and holy lives since wants us to make it to Heaven; His knowledge of us; His presence everywhere we go from Church to places we wished we didn’t; to the most remote and beautiful parts of the world; we are promised that God is with us; that His hand shall guide us - and when we waver He will hold us fast; so that we can continue to walk with Him all the way to Heaven.

May God bless you and your families this holy day and let our prayer together joyfully say: "Guide me, Lord, along the everlasting way."
