Encountering Jesus When We Need Him Most: Family Reflection Video

Strengthening family unity

The unifying power of Christ, even when we are just passing by…

In today's gospel from Luke at the gates of the city of Nain, two groups meet. One group, carrying the deceased young man, is leaving the city and the other, led by Jesus is preparing to enter. And, then the two groups meet, Jesus sees the grieving mother and widow amidst a sea of humanity and is moved with pity saying to her, “Do not weep.” He moves forward, He touches the coffin and tells the young man to arise…and he does.

Through this encounter with Christ, the young man was brought back to life, returned to his mother, and in the process, all in the originally separate crowds are united as they glorify God.

This Gospel scene is so poignant because it is a confrontation between life and death. Jesus, "our light and our life" reminds us through this event that He has the power to restore life whether it is natural in this case or supernatural as it relates to our souls.

As a family, take a few minutes to join me in praying for our communities and homes to better welcome Jesus’ saving power to give us renewed life so that we may also share His compassion.
