Family Reflection Video: Come Holy Spirit

The Sacraments  |  Gospel of John

Father Theodore Hesburgh, C.S.C., President Emeritus of the University of Notre Dame, was once asked what his favorite prayer was.

In Latin, Veni, Sancte Spiritus! … Come Holy Spirit!

Try this simple three-word prayer when feeling doubt, lost or trying to make a decision.  The Holy Spirit is a powerful resource we have in our lives … it is the greatest gift that we received through the sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation!

When you’re together with your family, talk about the impact of the gift of the Holy Spirit in your lives. Does it bring you strength, comfort and guidance … or are you not really aware of it at all?

I leave you today with the closing words from a beautiful poem Sister Mary Ignatius published about the Holy Spirit in 1942:

“It's this that makes

My spirit spin:

That heaven is

Not up, but in!”

God bless you and all families around the world.
