Find the Risen Christ- Weekday Homily Video
We are on the octave of Easter celebrations. As Christians who believe in the Lord’s resurrection as the foundation of our faith, Easter brings us great joy and wonder, why? it is a manifestation of how God’s love can overpower human sin. Easter brings us into a new life that is more profound than the death we human beings inflict on each other. Easter commemorates Jesus rising from the dead, overcoming the ultimate consequences of sin and death. It brings all of us into a new relationship with God demonstrated through God’s power and love. As believers we become forgiven through faith in the risen Christ, and we can attain salvation.
One of the great minds once said; “There is nothing new under the sun.” Whatever human experience we encounter here on earth has in one form or another taken place before. Corruption, coverups they did exist in Jesus’ time. During this Easter joy and jubilations of our risen Lord we already have the leaders of the Jews trying to put a twist on what had happened. Trying to create an alternate story about the empty tomb and the risen Christ. They could not accept the possibility of resurrection, so the option is to bribe the guards to present a false story that Jesus’ body was stolen from the tomb as they slept. In our days too, don’t we experience many false stories created to cover up difficult truths or realities to accept. And when people do not want to believe something, sometimes reason and logic can often go out the window.
Through Mary Magdalene and the other Mary encounter with the risen Lord, it is clear that no one can hide or suppress the truth. With Joy and happiness, they are eager to out and tell the disciples the good news. He himself instructs the women to inform the disciples that he will meet them in Galilee, as the risen Christ.
-
Jesus is saying the same thing to us, to find the risen Christ, in the place where we live and work, we don’t have to search for him in other places.
-
The good news of Easter is that we rejoice in God’s love and redemption, what God has done for humanity. In that light, we are being asked to identify with the women’s response in the gospel to the risen Lord, that is to herald the truth of Easter, that the Lord is indeed risen.
-
·Jesus is calling on us to be his messengers of hope, of light over darkness. Let us always do good. Let us help those in need, let us be humble, truthful, forgiving, kind-hearted, and loving. When we get around to do all this, we are proclaiming to the world the good news of the risen Christ.
-
True faith makes us authentic and more aligned to representing the message of the risen Christ faithfully and truthfully. Ours is not to present what fits our liking but the actual message of the risen Christ. We should not be afraid but stand firm in truth even when faced with opposition and disbelief.
-
In his new form as the risen Lord, he assures us of his redeeming presence. This is all the confirmation we need to live our faith seriously, and courageously. Like Mary Magdalen and the other Mary witness to the risen Christ, let us reflect on how our faith can bring hope and renewal to those meet and encounter in our life.
