It starts out nice and then we end up making noise to each other.
Bishop Simeon Valerio used to give his famous lecture on how we show our love to others. Think of the first few years of being married: calling each other “honey” or “darling” or ‘love.” After some years, spouses call to each other with “hey.” After more years, they just make a noise to get the other one’s attention; something like “psst.”
We see Jesus bring a new identity to Peter today. When asked if he loved Jesus, Peter said of course he did! Then he is asked to feed the sheep. It is one thing to say you love Jesus, but the real test is in doing what he asks. We must tell our family members more often that we love them, share apologies, and say thank you. Express our love with more than “psst!”
How have you been showing your family you love them?
