I Rejoice - Weekday Homily Video

Learn more about our faith

Happy Easter! In this season of renewal and hope, I am moved to share a profound story that has touched my heart deeply, imparted to me by one of the Holy Cross priests. It is the story of a community member who, in his final moments, shared a revelation that resonates deeply with the spirit of Easter. As he lay on his deathbed, he whispered with a serene smile, "I rejoice," expressing his joy and anticipation for what awaited him beyond this life. His words, "I am so happy to see what awaits me," remind us that in the journey of faith, death is not an end but a gateway to a new beginning.

This poignant narrative serves as a powerful reminder that we, as followers of faith, are not merely people of Good Friday's sorrow but of Easter's resurrection and joy. The lessons that Easter imparts are profound and transformative, teaching us truths that illuminate our path in life and beyond.

Easter Lessons

  1. Firstly, the assurance that death is not to be feared but embraced as a transition, a moment not of separation but of preparation for the glorious destiny that awaits those who believe. This realization brings a profound comfort, dispelling the fear of death and replacing it with a hopeful anticipation for the eternal joy that lies ahead.
  2. Secondly, Easter teaches us the importance of living with authenticity and integrity. It reminds us that our lives are a testament to the truth we live by, and ultimately, we will be accountable for how we have lived, loved, and served. This lesson urges us to be true to ourselves and to others, cultivating lives of honesty, kindness, and compassion.
  3. Lastly, it brings into focus the concept of eternity—a reality that stretches beyond the confines of our earthly existence. This eternal perspective challenges us to live not just for the moment but with an awareness of the infinite. It invites us to reflect on our spiritual journey, encouraging us to seek a life that resonates with the eternal values of love, peace, and justice.

A Living Hope

As we continue to celebrate Easter, let us do so with hearts filled with hope, joy, and peace. Let the story of our community member inspire us to see beyond the transient and to embrace the eternal promises of faith. Easter is not just a commemoration but a living hope that encourages us to face life's challenges with courage and to seek a deeper, more meaningful connection with the divine.

May this Easter fill your lives with the light of faith, the warmth of family and community, and the promise of a new beginning. Together, let us celebrate the joy of resurrection and the assurance of eternal life, carrying these truths in our hearts as we journey forward.
