Joy to the Season

Strengthening family unity

“We should also get her some of those candies she likes.”

My sister has been living abroad for the past few months so our family has to get ready for her to come home. For me, that means sorting through the pile I have been accumulating on her bed, my brothers have to get more flour because she is going to want to bake a thousand things but have them do the work, and our dog … can just keep napping because she has no idea what’s going on.

We are getting ready for a joyful season, one where our family will be in the same time zone, same country, and in the same house. I will admit I have gotten used to having my own room for the past few months, but there is an excitement to having her back since it has always been “our” space. (In my duty as a sibling that sounded way to nice, so I’ll add in that she snores.)

Now that she is home, there is a joyful air around our house that I think really puts us back together. We get right back into our rhythm, like there had never been any interruptions: baking, making fun of each other, watching movies. We also went out and got our Christmas tree already so this is a big improvement for us (the past three years we’ve cut it pretty close, I’m talking December 22 kind of close)! I know it’s not the same for everyone, but what brings the joy to our house is when we’re all together, because between our ridiculousness and insane ways of expressing love, that’s all we really need.

What brings joy to your season?
