Knocking on Hope

Knocking on Hope's Door - Weekday Homily Video

Holy lives of inspiration

Sisters and Brothers, today we gather to celebrate the Eucharist and commemorate the 150th anniversary of Blessed Basil Moreau's journey into eternal life. We stand in this chapel, a silent witness to our hopes and struggles, a reminder that faith and perseverance are intertwined, especially when doubt lingers, and challenges loom large.

Moment of Faith

In his darkest hour, Father Moreau knelt before the tabernacle and knocked, asking, "Are you there?" This wasn't a question of doubt but a testament to his profound faith, a faith that sought Jesus even when the path ahead seemed lost. He saw the Cross not as a defeat but as a beacon of hope, a reminder that God is present even in suffering.

Finding Joy in Trials

As James reminds us, trials can refine our faith, making it stronger and more resilient. This doesn't mean embracing suffering, but finding joy in the deepening connection with God it fosters. Like the Pharisees who missed Jesus amidst outward signs, we too are surrounded by His presence: in the kindness of others, the love of family, and the inner strength that guides us each day.

Perseverance as a Beacon

Our perseverance, especially in hardship, is precious. It's a testament to our faith, a beacon of hope lighting our path towards healing. Remember, you are never alone. Christ walks beside you, offering not just a sign, but Himself: a comforting hand, a whispered promise, a love that conquers all.

Embracing Our Journey

Let us embrace our journey with hope and open hearts, seeking wisdom and strength. Let faith transform our trials into sources of growth. Remember, your perseverance is precious, your faith a beacon of hope.

His Legacy

Father Moreau's legacy, rooted in the transformative power of education and compassion, calls us to be beacons of hope and love in our communities. He saw education not just as knowledge transfer, but as nurturing well-rounded individuals who can change the world. The global network of Holy Cross institutions embodies this mission, advocating for justice, stewardship, and inclusivity.

Building Communities of Love

The spirit of community that Father Moreau emphasized is crucial in our yearning for connection. The bonds within the Congregation and its collaborators exemplify building communities grounded in love, respect, and mutual support. This spirit extends to our digital connections, uniting us in a shared message of hope and collaboration.

Carrying the Torch

As we honor Father Moreau's legacy, let us recommit to the mission he entrusted to us: faith, education, and service. By carrying forward his torch, we honor his vision of a world transformed by compassion, reflecting God's love. Let this anniversary inspire us to live out these values in our daily lives, building a legacy that endures.

In moments of darkness, remember Father Moreau's act of faith. Like him, let us knock on the door of hope, confident that God is with us, urging us to persevere. See the Cross as our only hope, a source of strength and renewal. May His love and light guide us all.
