Our greatest need in life is spiritual.
In his autobiography, Father Peyton wrote about his experience of being lifted from a life of poverty to being cast down when diagnosed with tuberculosis. It was his deep spirituality that lifted him up and carried him through.
In today’s reading, Jesus tells the disciples that blessed are the poor, the hungry, the weeping, and the excluded. He was trying to lift up the disciples, who had left everything to follow him, and encourage them when they were cast down. His encouraging message is also meant for us today.
With your family, talk about how earthly rewards and comforts could distract us from God.
Please pray with me that our spiritual poverty will lead us to depend on God who has assured us the eternal reward.
