Return to the Church

God wants us to know that He, and His Holy Presence, fills the whole universe. He is love, and He wants to transform our hearts so we can love him back!

Imagine the moment when Jesus calls to Zacchaeus. Jesus was passing through Jericho apparently not intending to stop. He was on the last leg of His trip to Jerusalem and He was intent on His great mission there, what He was born for: His sacrificial death to save us.

There was a crowd wanting to meet and to see the prophet; the miracle worker who everyone was talking about. All of a sudden Jesus stops.

One of the richest men in town had climbed up into a tree, trying to see the prophet. Jesus calls to him: “Zacchaeus, come down. Hurry, I must stay at your house today."

People thought they had good reason to hate Zacchaeus. He got rich as a tax collector by collaborating with the Romans - betraying his people so he could extort and take advantage of his power over others.

Zacchaeus must have felt the effect of his sin so strongly - it had left him feeling worthless, lonely and isolated.

Yet in his brokenness, for some reason he wanted to see Jesus.

In his brokenness and pain, somehow, something opened in him.

Jesus looked at him with the love of Our Lord, that was so powerful it touched the core of his being and immediately transformed him.

The Lord wants this look, this love that penetrated the heart of Zacchaeus to penetrate your heart and to permeate your home! The Lord wants us to cry out to Him, "Jesus, I want to see you!"

Holy Mother Mary, help us to open our hearts and homes to the love that the Lord wants to shower on us!
