I am intrigued by the confidence and conviction of this leper from the street. His miseries did not lessen his faith and hope in the power of a merciful God.
If you and I were in similar situations as the leper in today’s reading, would our confidence and conviction be as strong? Would we feel confident that Jesus, born in a stable, willingly pitching His tent with us, is really Emmanuel, God with us?
Perhaps, we fail to realize that God is really with us that keeps us from approaching Him for healing from our miseries: physical, emotional, and spiritual. Perhaps, it is our failure to realize that God’s love and mercy are not just beautiful ideas. They are real.
Do we want to be touched by Jesus? Or do we want to have the strength, courage, and power to touch others with the love of Christ? If so, then like the leper, let us seek Him out and spend time with Him prayer. Make Him a priority, and He will touch you.
