I was unsure if this was the path for me so I pleaded, “God, give me a sign to prove that you really want me to be a priest.”
I realized as I sat there waiting for God to answer me that each incident of my life, every person I met and every single experience – positive or negative – was the answer.
It’s common that we look to God for assurance of our decisions; the crowd in today’s Gospel even sought assurance that Jesus’ words and works were approved. Although we know ultimately our actions can hurt others, we also know our love and God’s truth can help.
So we rely on faith. If we have faith we will not live for just today; our decisions will be made for tomorrow, for our children, for all eternity. That’s the power of faith. Talk with your family about what it means to embody “faith.”
May this lent be a season for us to deepen our faith leading to a responsible life in our families, in the church and in society.
