Mary’s Donkey and the Domestic Church: Family Reflection Video

Seasonal Reflections

How ‘Mary’s Donkey’ encouraged and influenced enrichment of the Domestic Church.

Vatican II has some rich insights into the role of family. It says the task of being a mother and father is a munus, a Latin word that means ‘service, gift, duty and office.’ In the realm of the home, the domestic church, parents are interpreters of the love of God to those under their care.

Today’s Gospel (http://www.usccb.org/bible/luke/2:16) says, “Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart.” Mary is Mother of the Church and we celebrate that as we too keep all these things and cherish them in our hearts.

Let’s treasure all these things in our own families and recall always that the family is a school of deeper humanity: fertile, rich, abundant and fruitful. Mary Mother of the Church, pray for us, especially as we enter this New Year!
