Today we begin a ten-week series we are offering to our World at Prayer Blog community. Written by our own Father Jim Phalan, C.S.C., he explains the charisms of the Congregation of Holy Cross and how each and every one of us can grow closer to God by living them each and every day. We know you will find them enriching, particularly during this stressful time.
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
With all that has been going on around us, caused by the COVID-19 situation, who is not feeling rattled, confused, and overwhelmed? Take heart in seeing how so many are coming together and doing what can be done to respond. That response has to be on so many levels – and fundamental is the level of our hearts and souls, the spiritual. There we need to come to a deeper understanding and a wider vision. There we let ourselves be touched by God,His healing grace, His love that sustains, His wisdom that guides and His peace that will be the peace we need.
Father Peyton offered a most important tool: PRAY – AND PRAY WITH YOUR FAMILY! Maybe in recent years you’ve been so busy you’ve put prayer on the back burner a bit. The school kids are home. Pray with them! Try the Rosary!
Venerable Patrick Peyton was a priest of the Congregation of Holy Cross and he was schooled in the profound spirituality of the Order’s Founder, Blessed Basil Moreau. That spirituality can help us now, giving us a simple structure to help find God now and so to understand and to be touched by the saving grace of Jesus which leads to life!
Here’s a simple summary of this Spirituality:
- Trust in Divine Providence
- Unity, rooted in the Holy Trinity and mirrored for us in the Holy Family
- The Cross, our only hope!
- Hospitality
- Zeal for mission.
Join me every Thursday for the next ten weeks as we unpack and ponder what it all means.
God bless us all!
