Open Hearts! Family Reflection Video

Why pray?

It is springtime here and bursting with life! It’s the month of Mary and we just celebrated Mother’s Day and the feast of Our Lady of Fatima. I’d like to continue thinking of Mary … particularly noting how she chose three simple children.

When Our Lady appeared in Fatima in 1917, the world was in the middle of another huge crisis: The First World War. Our Lady gave her message to kids! Children have open hearts, open to receive what Our Lady so longs to share with us. Our Lady came to give them Jesus. They received the message, and lived it in their hearts and minds.

Jesus commands us today: Love one another as I have loved you. Are we ready? Is this world capable of that? Most of us spend so much time shut down, locked up in our hurts and our fears, not capable of loving ourselves, let alone others. Challenges and crises like we are going through now make it so much harder still to open up!

Mary came to the little shepherds in Fatima as Mother and as friend, and she spent time with them. Each time she appeared, she told them pray the Rosary. She showed them how to spend time with Jesus so that we can grow day by day in this friendship, this union with Jesus. And even better, we can pray with our family so He will live in our homes too.

God bless you and this day!
