Our Time, Talent, and Treasure - Weekday Homily Video

Learn more about our faith

Today we hear Jesus in the Gospel journeying from town to town and from village to village preaching and proclaiming the Good News of the Kingdom of God. With Him, He had companions – the twelve apostles who helped Him in the work of preaching and proclaiming the good news; and He also had an army of women like, Mary Magdala, Joanna, Susanna who attended to all the needs of Jesus and His disciples out of their resources.

The preaching and the proclamation of the Gospel requires resources. Today we are being introduced to a group of women who provided for Jesus and His disciples so that they could continue to preach and proclaim the Gospel. They provided food, water, lodging, and if someone on the team didn’t have any money to pay for Caesar’s taxes, they put together some resources to take care of that.

We Are the Support

That kind of support was needed during Jesus’ time and that kind of support is still needed even in our times. The Church still needs support to continue preaching and proclaiming the good news. The Church still needs an army of supporters who “out of their resources” provide to the Church so that the work of evangelization can be able to go on. Are you one who values the work of the Church? Are you one who has benefitted in some way from the work that the Church does? Are you one who desires to see the work of “preaching and proclaiming the gospel” continue? Please consider providing to the Church out of your resources part of your time, talent, and treasure. There are electricity bills to be paid, maintenance of the buildings to be done, insurance to be bought, altar wine and bread to be bought, altar linen and vestments to be bought, food to be put on the table of the priests, gas to be put in the car to go visit the sick in the hospital and the homebound.

Giving What We Can

Today is a good day for us to ask ourselves – When is the last time out of my resources that I made out a good check to the Church? When was the last time I volunteered my time to help with some Church work? When is the last time I availed my talent or skill for the benefit of the work of God?

May we today in our Mass be challenged and be inspired at the same time by the example of the many women who generously “provided out of their resources” to the work of preaching and proclaiming the gospel.
