Preparing for the Next Life: Family Reflection Video

Celebrating family life

How are we using our time on earth to prepare for the next life?

In the first reading today, Saint Paul reminds us that we are citizens of heaven, destined for a glory like Christ's. In the gospel, Jesus reminds us our earthly life will end soon, and we must use our temporary material blessings prudently for our souls' eternal benefit.

Executive Directors of The Peyton Institute for Domestic Church Life, Dr. Greg and Lisa Popcak, propose a fresh spirituality of the family is not sourced in the monastic and clerical tradition but emerging organically from within the experience of family life and rooted in the baptismal anointing of each member as priest, prophet, and king/royal. Consequently, each family member and each family have a unique mission.

  • The priestly family lives a self-sacrificing love that fosters human integration and union with God and each other.

  • The prophetic family develops rituals, ways of walking, talking, praying, and playing together.

  • The royal family encourages family members to recognize, honor, and use their gifts and talents in the service of others.

The family is the domestic church. Each family member is a priest, prophet and king. Our earthly life will end soon, and we must use our time here prudently for our souls' eternal benefit.

I pray you will have a flourishing and fulfilled family life!
