Saint George: Real or Fiction? Family Reflection Video

Strengthening family unity  |  Holy lives of inspiration

What we know of Saint George for sure is not much. Tradition has it that slayed dragons. Dragons?

How did Saint George become the model of honorable men not just for England but for much of Western civilization? What is the legendary dragon that Saint George slew?

In the book of Genesis and in the book of Revelation, we hear of dragons, representing evil. You have to think of the symbolism of both Genesis and Revelation using that to remind us of the reality of evil and the need for families, and individuals to slay the dragon, to protect children and the innocent.

In today’s culture there are many forms of evil … evil that can hurt families and individuals. As a family, can you think of some examples? Now discuss how you, as a family and as individuals, can “slay these dragons” in your home, school, workplace, community and the world. For example, you might begin and/or end each day with a family prayer together. What are some other ways?

I pray for all families today, especially fathers and men who can learn from Saint George and protect their families spiritually. Amen.
