Santa Lucia and The Light of Christ: Family Reflection Video

Strengthening family unity  |  Holy lives of inspiration

Most of us carry a burden or several burdens … and I think you would agree, most of us could use some rest.

“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

These words give us confidence and hope to face whatever is going on in our lives. It’s in the union - the yoking our lives to Christ - that we stay on the right path and receive the grace of God.

When we learn about the lives of the saints, like St. Lucy whom we celebrate today, inevitably we come to understand that these are people who made a lifelong decision to “yoke” themselves to Christ. We have all been given this same opportunity.

With Jesus, we’re able to draw strength and knowledge of what matters and what doesn’t, and we have the courage to persevere when things look tough. As a family, think of the times your family has carried a heavy burden … when it was difficult to stay hopeful. How did your faith help you? Were there faith-filled people in your life who helped ease your concerns during this time?

I invite you and your family to pray together:

Jesus, Light of the world, come to us.

Give us the knowledge, strength and hope that we need today.

Help our families to grow in love of you and each other.

May we shine your light for the world to see,

to warm the hearts of those most in need.

Amen.
