Sometimes coffee just won’t cut it…
A priest who worked with misbehaving teens received an anonymous call telling him the teens were planning on making a mess of is yard that night. The priest stayed awake the entire night before youth retreat, only for the kids to never show up. They mockingly asked if he slept well when he showed up exhausted the next day.
Jesus wasn’t pulling a prank on us when he said “stay awake.” He wants us to be constantly on guard. Every trouble we face is a reminder to “stay awake” whether it be natural disaster, scandal, illness, or another hardship. We must remain vigilant in “keeping awake” as well –this we can accomplish with our families through prayer.
What do you do to “stay awake?”
Let us pray that our eyes are opened and we are ready to receive Jesus at any hour when he comes!
