Love is giving, while selfishness compares.
The classic thriller tale of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde tells the story of a doctor, trying his best to help people while keeping an alternate personality, Mr. Hyde, hidden. Mr. Hyde is the doctor’s dark side and reaches a dangerous point, out of the doctor’s control. In the same way Dr. Jekyll tries to defeat Mr. Hyde, we too must recognize and defeat the side of ourselves that wants to hurt others.
Scarlett O’Hara is the same way to her unsuspecting best friend, Melanie. Jealous of Melanie’s relationship, Scarlett talks about her behind her back, eventually distancing everyone who cares about Scarlett away from her. Being critical and judging others only brings Scarlett misery and isolation, as it does to any of us.
How do I try to fight feelings of judgement? Do I often put my best self forward to hide the bad I do in secret? How do my hurtful actions affect those around me?
Let us pray today that our families are far from judging and close to healing through God’s love.
