In the song Take it to the Lord in prayer, which I believe many of us know, one of the lines is Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Have we trials and temptation
Is there trouble anywhere
We should never be discouraged
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
The King's Example
This is exactly what Kinhg Hezekiah did. When he received the threats from the King of Assyria, a strong message that said "do not let your God whom you rely deceive you, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to other nations, they doomed them will you be saved."
We have heard that he responded by going in the presence of the Lord to ask for his intervention. And indeed his prayer was answered. The Lords message through Isaiah was “the king of Assyria will not reach the city or shoot an arrow to it."
Restoring Peace
For a king like Hezekiah, the first response to the message could have been to assemble his army to prepare for war just to prove that he is capable of protecting his nation. But he chose another way, taking it to the Lord in prayer. The assurance that the king of Assyria could not attack his city restored peace to him.
Sometimes we are also overwhelmed by the challenges and problems we face. It could be a challenge in the marriage, the family, the job, inability to pay bills. The voices or messages we receive in such moments may say us away from our faith and make us think otherwise. We may feel helpless, restless or even abandoned or even confused to the extend that we don't know which path to take, the wider path or the narrow path.
The Narrow Path
For all who believe in God, the invitation is to choose the narrow path, one that leads to life. The experience of Hezekiah in the first reading today should inspire us to choose the narrow path that leads to life, by taking all to God in prayer, and in this way we shall have peace and continued trust in Him.
