The Annunciation: Family Reflection Video

Seasonal Reflections

I was slower than Mary in accepting the Lord’s plan for me.

I usually would not bore you with tales from my past, but today I ask you bear with me as I make an exception…

I was 20 years old when my brother was driving me to where I would begin my studies for the priesthood. I was overtaken on the ride there that we had to go back. I told my brother to turn the car around, and we surprised everyone back home when I told them I was just now deviating from my lifelong plan.

When Mary is told today of God’s plan for her, she is at first confused, but offered an explanation through the angel, and then immediately accepts her vocation. I was certainly slower in accepting what God had in store for me. Since that day, the Lord has led me down paths I could not have planned for myself. If we do not spend time with the Lord in prayer, we will not experience that call, with its wonder and grace.

How is the Lord calling you? What plans did the Lord make for you that conflicted with your own?
