The Cleansing of the Temple: Family Reflection Video

The Cleansing of the Temple: Family Reflection Video

Return to the Church  |  Holy lives of inspiration

Want to encounter the Living God? Make sure your temple is clean.

Saint Cecilia’s blood shed for Jesus cleansed the temple of so many hearts who were inspired by her sacrifice. The Maccabees cleansed and rededicated the temple in Jerusalem, and the festival of light called Hanukkah continues to this day.

The Lord Jesus himself also gave us the perfect example of praying without ceasing. Then He entrusted to us the perfect prayer, The Our Father.

Have we turned His temple into a den of thieves rather than a house of prayer? Have we desecrated the temples of the Holy Spirit that are our bodies? Or, do we follow the example of Mary, His mother, who points so clearly to the way that leads to the Lord, “Do whatever He tells you”?

The Maccabees, Saint Cecilia and our good Lord all cleanse the temple so that it becomes a house of prayer again, where we and our families can encounter the Living God.
