“Do to others whatever you would have them do to you”
Jesus says not to give what is holy to dogs, meaning we should cherish and care for the gifts God has given us. The respect we have for ourselves is often reflected in the way we display. We know what is good for our lives, but we often fail in the choices we make, trying to avoid appearing below standards to others.
The list of narrow gates, or challenges, we avoid can be pretty long. Jesus invites us to experience the internal joy of walking gladly through these narrow gates and avoid a mechanical life driven by the illusions of ease. Let us choose wisely what is right and renounce the illusions.
What problems are “trampling” our families today? What narrow gates do we avoid, big or small in trying to make our lives easier?
Let us pray each of us may realize our real dignity is that we are created in the image and likeness of God.
