“Sisters and brothers, watch how you live. Your lives may be the only gospel your listeners will ever read.” – Servant of God Dom Hélder Câmara
Jesus sent out his disciples with nothing but the clothes on their back and a walking stick. Their greatest treasure was the good news of Jesus. This reminds us to take our focus off of material possessions and put it more on those around us.
Wealth, desire for recognition and personal pride can stunt our desire for God and our freedom to love and do good. We are just passing through this world for a short time, so we must make the most of it.
Spread this practice first in your family and then to others you engage with. Pray together:
Jesus,
make us aware that You are with us.
Help us call to mind and pray for all those families that are enslaved by
debt, possessions, addictions and anything else.
We pray that like Mary, our Mother, we too may live as disciples,
available to do the work of God in our families and neighborhoods.
Amen.
