I have always struggled with the Rosary, but it wasn't until I received some healing that my struggle turned into a desire. I was often reminded of the words that Jesus spoke to the Apostle John while on the cross: “Behold, your mother.” These words profoundly affected me as I longed for Mary to be my mother.
I began focusing more on the Rosary, and as I closed my eyes to pray, I imagined that with each Hail Mary, I was handing Mary a beautiful rose that she would gracefully receive. By the end of the Rosary, Mary would be standing before me with her arms full of roses and a flower crown I had placed on her head.
Getting Closer to the Blessed Mother
Each day, I felt an intense desire to be near her. I began praying the Angelus as often as I could. The Rosary had become my lifeline, and the Angelus was my daily check-in with my Heavenly Mother.
Over the months, my relationship with Mary has grown. When I am unwell or struggling immensely, I turn to her. I place myself under her protective mantle and find the rest and comfort I seek.
Mary has soothed my heart's wounds and embraced me as her daughter. Through the Rosary, Mary shares important moments of her life with Joseph and her precious Son, Jesus. The Rosary is an invitation to know our Heavenly Mother more personally and an encouragement to turn to her in our needs and struggles.
Venerable Patrick Peyton, known as "The Rosary Priest," devoted his priestly life to encouraging family prayer, especially the Rosary. This October, for the Month of the Holy Rosary, Family Rosary (an apostolate founded by Father Peyton) and Catholic Mom have teamed up for this daily series dedicated to the Rosary.
