The Second Half of Lent - The Mystery of Christ: Family Reflection Video

Learn more about our faith  |  Seasonal Reflections

The first half of Lent was a call to holiness. By now we realize we cannot do it on our own!

For this second half of Lent, we’ll focus on the mystery of Jesus Christ.

Soren Kierkegaard, a Danish theologian of 19th Century, theorized humans go through life in stages:

  1. The Aesthetic Stage: The main motivation is pleasure.
  2. Then we rise to the Ethical Stage, a person has begun to follow the rules and laws of society honoring obligations and responsibilities.
  3. Finally, the Religious Stage, progressing past the previous two and taking the leap of faith in God.

It’s likely that all three stages exist in our own families and in our own hearts at times. Can you think of people you love who are in each of these stages? Where are you? Do you think this theory is accurate?

Lord, help us to come to experience the mystery of Christ more fully this lent as a family. Amen.
