Unshakable in the Light - Weekday Homily Video
Today’s readings present a striking contrast: fear and courage, darkness and light.
In the first reading, the Apostles are arrested and thrown into prison. It seems like the end of their mission. But during the night, the angel of the Lord frees them and gives a clear command:
“Go and tell the people everything about this life.”
And what do they do? They return to the temple and continue preaching without hesitation.
They are unshakable—not because of their own strength, but because they are rooted in Christ.
In the Gospel, we hear the very heart of our faith:
“God so loved the world that He gave His only Son…”
But Jesus also reminds us of a hard truth:
“People preferred darkness to light.”
The light requires a choice. It calls us to live differently—to live in truth, honesty, and grace.
Last weekend, I witnessed something deeply inspiring at the Young Catholic Professionals conference in Dallas. Nearly 700 young people gathered under the theme: “Unshakable.”
What moved me most was this: These young professionals are striving to live in the light of Christ in the midst of a busy, demanding, and complex world. Their goal is clear—to get to heaven. And something beautiful is unfolding among them. Because they are taking their faith seriously, they are also discovering their vocation.
Many are discerning a call to marriage—not merely as a social arrangement, but as a sacred vocation. They are finding one another through a shared commitment to live with faith, joy, and integrity.
This carries a powerful message for our families today. Strong, faith-filled families do not happen by accident. They are formed when individuals choose to walk in the light—when they root their lives firmly in Christ.
The Invitation
When young people witness authentic faith in families— when they see prayer, forgiveness, sacrifice, and genuine love— they are inspired to desire the same. But when faith is weak or divided, confusion easily enters.
So today, the Lord invites each one of us:
-
to bring our families into the light of Christ
-
to make our homes places of prayer, faith, and truth
-
to support our young people in discovering their true vocation
Because when families are rooted in Christ, they become places where vocations are born, where faith grows strong, and where hearts become truly unshakable.
Let us ask for this grace: that our families may walk in the light, and that through them, many may discover their path to heaven.
Amen.
And friends, let us never forget: our ultimate goal is to get to heaven.
