I think my parents taught us the Hail Mary first and then the Our Father.
Those first two words of the Our Father made the greatest impression on my young mind. Calling on God as “Our Father” gave a sense that God wasn’t some kind of imaginary character from my bedtime stories, but as real as my parents who taught me the prayer.
In a way, St. Paul is trying to get the Corinthians and us to realize that our relationship with Jesus is just as real as the families we have next to us every day. Jesus worries we will be led astray, as our parents do, so he tells us that God already knows what we need, and will provide for it.
What have you realized from your prayers?
