Jesus had the opportunity to point out the difference and priority of interior purity vs. exterior appearance.
We can get ready for the day with great attention to our appearance but at times lack a purity of our souls. Jesus explains this today when he tells the Pharisee of what it really means to be clean. Working in God’s Word and helping others wash the soul. Saint Hedwig founded religious houses, hospitals, and cared for the poor using her family’s wealth. Her life’s shiny exterior did not cloud her need to work in the Lord’s name.
Jesus and St. Hedwig help us too see both body and soul needs to be kept clean so that we can shine the light and love of Christ both in our homes and in public with an integrity of what we believe and how we live.
Is there any cleaning we need by the Grace of God?
We pray for our souls to be cleansed! May we do some digging and strive to be as clean on the inside as we are on the outside.
