You are a Child of God: Family Reflection Video

Why pray?

A number of times I’ve had people come at me with an attack against the Rosary saying. “Look here what the bible says about your repetitive prayers of the Rosary …” As if our repetition of The Hail Mary was this sort of “Babbling of the Pagans” that Jesus criticizes. This is not what’s going on in the Rosary.

By no means are we trying to buy the favor of some deity or overwhelm with the sheer quantity of our words. Quite the contrary. Yes, when we pray the Rosary we make use of repetitive prayer. All the meditation traditions of the world’s great religions understand the function, the importance of repetition, to quiet the hyperactive mental processes so as to go to deeper levels within us, to enter into calmness. To enter a prayer of peace.

Especially today. So many really suffer from always being so pressured, on overdrive, causing a pandemic of anxiety that is, honestly, doing at least as much damage to us as the coronavirus. We need to slow down, to let go of so many feelings, even obsessions, that have us tied up in knots. Teaching us to pray the Our Father, the Lord is very intentionally calling to live differently, on a deep, calm level.

Praying the Rosary, let Mary help you come to know who you are - that God is your Father. Then, your life can change. An intimate path to healing, wholeness and holiness opens up before you because you can simply be that child of God. You may still be far from perfect but you can start to let go of what that weighs you down and makes you anxious and tired. You can start to find true freedom in Christ.
