You are Important, Precious, and Loved – Family Reflection Video

Celebrating family life

As a young boy growing up, despite the many gifts and talents that I was blessed with, I often thought I was not good, capable, or loved. I grew up with a negative self-image until I met a priest who helped me to see myself as God sees me. He gave me a mantra and told me to repeat it three times a day.

He said, tell yourself that you are good, capable, and loved. It helped me tremendously as a young person.

A recent study noted that 22% of Americans reported they felt isolated or lonely. Other studies report that people desire to be seen, heard, known, and valued. Today we hear in the gospel about someone who sees, hears, knows, and loves us as we are. It is God himself. He sees the secret desires of our hearts, hears our cries, understands our needs before we ask, and values us so much that He has counted the hairs on our heads.

In his letter to the Ephesians, St. Paul reminds us that God has found us worthy to share in his divine life. The Psalmist reminds us that God has chosen us for his own inheritance.

Today Jesus is inviting us to share in his redemptive work of love by knowing him, building our relationship with him, and doing His will in our lives and the life of our families.

You are seen, heard, understood, and valued. You are important, precious, and loved.

Are we ready to renounce any negative feelings we have about ourselves and accept the worth that we have in God’s eyes?
