A 30-Minute May Crowning for Toddlers

May  |  Blessed Virgin Mary  |  Catholic Family Fun  |  Family Activities

May begins next week, a perfect time to plan a May Crowning with your littles. My two-year-old daughter Ellen and I put together a super simple and quick May Crowning activity. We did most of it during my son's nap time while I was still unshowered and in my PJs. What is it that G.K. Chesterton famously said (and I use it as a crutch far too often)? “If a thing is worth doing, it is worth doing badly.”

First, we printed out this coloring sheet. We made some paper flowers out of tissue paper and glued them to Mary's crown (and everything else) while I explained that Mary is the Queen of Heaven. Next, we popped into the front yard to pick some dandelions (I don't care what you say - I like them!) and violas. We placed them in a bud vase and presented them to Kitchen Mary. Then, we said a Hail Mary, and, that's it. It probably took us all of 30 minutes.

Honestly, when your child is two, that is about all she can handle and understand. By the time we were done, Ellen was able to remember that Mary is the Queen of Heaven. And I call that a job done. If I can do a May Crowning, so can you.
