Reflections of Family and Faith
"The family that prays together stays together." - Venerable Patrick Peyton
I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately about all the people knee-deep in lousy stuff. I have gotten many emails and texts in the past few weeks from people who need prayer to navigate their way through life. There is sickness, distress, family and job difficulties, and some of these requests are swirling really close to home.

Summertime has always been my favorite time of year. Having three lovely, lazy months off from school was the main reason as a kid, plus having a June birthday. Now as an adult I could do without the birthday reminder of aging, but I absolutely love having my children home from school for three whole months to enjoy lazy mornings, outdoor fun activities, and just time to relax together.

I’ve written before about to-do lists: writing them, using them, conquering them. I’ve read about them, too — how to do them, how not to do them, how long/short/organized/detailed they should be. To categorize or not to categorize. Short and simple or long and comprehensive. Day-by-day or one big jumble. And I keep changing my mind.

The scent of roses when no flowers are present is thought to be a sign that God’s presence is with us or a blessing from God is imminent. This same occurrence with the smell of roses has often been associated with miracles and encounters with Marian apparitions.

For the four years I was in high school, I was a part of the cross-country team. Junior year we had a change in coaches, the new one a bit more odd than the first, yet nice enough all the same. Thinking back on it, almost twenty-five years later now, I realize his methods were a bit unorthodox, even downright strange, but also rather ingenious.
