Reflections of Family and Faith
"The family that prays together stays together." - Venerable Patrick Peyton
Recently, I was gazing out the window and noticed a walker pushing a child in a stroller. I imagined the person navigating was a grandparent. It was a cold day, and my first thought was: that youngster should have a hat! Now, in fairness, maybe the child did have a hat but preferred not to wear it. All parents and grandparents have had the: “I won’t wear this!” battle of wills. How much to insist is part of the wisdom of the moment.

We use the word dream with different meanings. We can mean dreams while we sleep, daydreaming, or we can dream as when we long for something desirable, a vision of the way we would like things to be.

Not far from here, there is a cemetery with a gentle slope ascending to a prominent hill. From the crest of the hill, a beautiful vista opens across the horizon from the northwest to the northeast. There are ponds, a distant church spire, and forests as far as one can see. It is a glorious view, and one can’t help but feel called to pray.

Sitting on the porch recently, resting in the feeling of early fall, I marveled at the colors of the leaves. I noticed the faint chimes of a distant church playing the melody to Amazing Grace. The color of fall accompanied by a song of grace brought to mind the blessing and goodness of creation.
