Join Maria Morera Johnson and Inés Huber Mersch as they explore the journey of surrendering fears to trust in God in the latest Catholic Momcast episode.
Inés Huber Mersch shares a powerful story on CatholicMom.com about preparing for marriage. She received two very different Crucifixes. One, a vivid and wounded Christ from her Aunt Rafaelina, felt too raw and uncomfortable for the neat, modern home she envisioned—so it was tucked away. The other, a simpler and cleaner carving from her soon-to-be in-laws, felt easier to display and became the visible symbol of faith in our home. Years later, after loss and hardship, Inés realized she had tried to build her life from her own strength, and God gently drew her back to Him through prayer, especially the Rosary, Scripture, and the quiet surrender of her heart.

The Catholic Momcast covers the messy and the beauty of Catholic Motherhood
Inés writes:
Over time, my relationship with Jesus deepened through daily prayer, the sacraments, and the witness of the saints. I began to understand the beauty and meaning of Christ’s suffering—and my own need for His mercy. The memory of that first Crucifix returned, stirring both longing and regret. After searching and even dreaming of its location, I finally found it hidden away in a box. But it was broken. Sitting there in the attic, I felt the weight of my indifference and sorrow for having once turned away from the reality of His Passion.

I brought the damaged Crucifix home, carefully repaired it, and restored what had been broken—much like Christ was restoring me. Now it hangs prominently in our family room, a powerful reminder of His love and sacrifice, while the simpler Crucifix blesses our bedroom and our marriage. Through it all, I see how Mary led me back to her Son. What I once hid away, I now cherish—because in embracing the fullness of Christ’s Passion, I finally found the grace to trust, to surrender, and to live my faith more fully.
