Over the next five days, we’ll be sharing the best moments from our journey. From the rolling hills of New England to the stunning, historic churches of Quebec and Montreal, we're inviting you to experience the joy of this pilgrimage right alongside us.
Our group started bright and early at The Father Peyton Center in Easton, Massachusetts, gathering for Mass at 7:00 AM. There’s something deeply special about starting a family mission at the home of the "Rosary Priest" himself, Venerable Patrick Peyton. Plus, remembering his famous message about family prayer was great motivation before we scaled the steps of the bus. We crammed our over-packed suitcases into the undercarriage, and officially hit the road heading north.
A pilgrimage is never just about the destination; it is about the transformation that happens along the way. It’s also about complaining about legroom. As the bus climbed north through the towering, rugged White Mountains of New Hampshire, it was hard not to acknowledge the beauty of creation!

Later, the softer lines of the Vermont hills provided a quieter backdrop for reflection. As we crossed the Canadian border into Quebec, the sudden appearance of French road signs reminded us that we belong to a universal Church, one that completely transcends languages, borders, and our own rusty high school French skills. After hours of travel, a few strict rest stops, and a lot of collective stretching, the European charm of Old Quebec City finally greeted us.
A pilgrimage is an ancient, living tradition deeply rooted in Catholic history. Since the earliest centuries of the Church, Christians have left behind the comfort of their homes… to journey to holy places like the Holy Land, Rome, and Santiago de Compostela. They did not go as tourists seeking entertainment, luxury, or fine dining, but as peregrini (wayfarers) seeking God. A pilgrim travels with an intentional heart, carrying prayers, petitions, a deep desire for spiritual renewal, and in our case a lot of extra snacks.
There is a great mystery in the way God forms a community. As our large group settled into the close quarters of the coach… the bus quickly became our own modern-day Upper Room.

Before the Church reached the corners of the world, the disciples gathered together in anticipation. They were packed into a room, praying, waiting, and leaning on one another in faith. They came from totally different backgrounds, and this eclectic group was bound by a single, shared mission. We can only assume the disciples also had to negotiate who got the best seat also!
That is exactly who we are this week. Packed tightly into our seats, sharing pretzels, trading life stories, and raising our voices in prayer, we are imitating those first disciples. We are praying together so that, over the coming days, we too might receive a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit to set our hearts on fire.
As we close the chapter on Day 1 and look out over the historic, lit streets of Quebec, we ask Our Blessed Mother to pray for a spiritual reawakening for our group of faithful, slightly sleepy pilgrims.
Tomorrow, we step into the living history of Quebec's sacred spaces. Stay tuned, keep us in your prayers, and let us know what intentions you would like us to carry to the altars of Canada!
HCFM Pilgrimage: Day One Complete. Venerable Patrick Peyton, pray for us!
