Reflections of Family and Faith
"The family that prays together stays together." - Venerable Patrick Peyton
Advent | Advent calendar | Family Fun | family prayer | how to pray the rosary
During the time between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day, prayer tends to get lost in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. Our to-do lists seem endless, and we feel the pinch of the shortness of time even more during the Advent and Christmas seasons. Families rush the Advent season to hasten in Christmas long before our calendars reach the 24th of December. Advent and Christmas, like the season of Lent, are profound moments in our Liturgical Calendar where the first movement of our hearts should be toward our Lord, especially when we encounter Him through prayer.

While prayer may not change our circumstances, it will often change our hearts. It brings us closer to God, allowing Him to comfort us, guide us, and occasionally reveal His will for us. At the very least, communication with God always brings peace. The Catholic faith offers many beautiful devotions, each able to reach the faithful, who come to prayer with many different communication styles. God created each of us to be unique and unrepeatable; therefore, it stands to reason that He would provide many ways to communicate with Him.

Venerable Patrick Peyton | family prayer | rosary novena
The annual Family Novena Celebrating Venerable Patrick Peyton’s Birth began on January 9, and continues each day through January 17. There could be no better way for you and your family to start the New Year — asking Father Peyton and Our Blessed Mother to pray with you and for you from heaven for your needs and concerns. The Church refers to this as “intercession” … like asking a friend here on earth to pray with you and for you. When Father Peyton encouraged the world with his message, “The Family That Prays Together Stays Together,” he was zealous about it! He was sure praying together, especially the Rosary, would make a tremendous difference in homes. Families are facing so many challenges today; we need family prayer more than ever. Perhaps healing our families can help heal a community, then a country, and eventually the world. Just discovering this Rosary Novena? Start on Day One at any time of the year!

Venerable Patrick Peyton | family prayer | rosary novena
The annual Family Novena Celebrating Venerable Patrick Peyton’s Birth, January 9–17, is your opportunity to seek Father Peyton and Our Blessed Mother’s intercession for your family’s needs in 2024. Father Peyton was our ministry’s founder and is now a candidate for sainthood. His ministry continued after he went home to God in 1992 because his work was not done. We still need to encourage families as he did. Father Peyton devoted his priesthood to the spiritual well-being of families and became their prayer partner — praying with them and for them. We believe he is still doing that from heaven. Talk to your family about the Novena and start praying it at any time; we've included the link to Day One at the bottom of this post. Pray for your family and pray for Venerable Patrick Peyton’s eventual canonization so he can inspire future generations by being declared the “Saint for Family Prayer.” He’s halfway through the 4-step process now and your prayers can help.
